Kammererite cut by Lew WacklerKammererite Set

This pretty Kammererite cab was a bit of a mystery stone. Lew bought the rough from a vendor who didn't know its name. He was kind enough to dig up his invoice to double check, but it wasn't named there either. I ran across an offer of a pair of "Kammerite" earring stones (which looked like they came off the same piece of rough as these stones; the earring stones here however were also cut by Lew). When I looked it up, Google corrected the spelling. Gemdat says it was discovered in 1851, and since it also forms gorgeous deep purplish-pink crystals, I wondered why one doesn't see the crystals in jewelry. Gemdat explains, "Fashioning of Kämmererite is very difficult because the crystals are usually thin, micaceous with a perfect cleavage." Melody offers some information about it and mentions, among other things, that it can be used for the development of the third-eye.
While we usually think of "ultraviolet" as short wavelength electromagnetic radiation below the visible spectrum, the Pantone color of the year for 2018 was named "Ultra Violet." The Pantone website calls the color "nuanced and full of emotion" and says it symbolizes "experimentation and non-conformity..."
