This necklace was designed around Leah Fairbanks' gorgeous bead which has what I imagine are grape hyacinths on its surface. In its depths you see the rest of the garden, with a magical golden trellis and other amazing things! It is a very textural bead with subtle color. Please click on the image to see a close up of it. I used about a dozen different kinds of pearls, also semi-precious stones and old glass to embellish a needle-woven collar and tassel. Seed beads cover the optional extension which you can button in or leave off.

The needle weaving is done with pale purple and green cord (Conso). The cord is pretty much completely covered by the pearls and beads. I cover it by pulling out individual strands of cord as I go and adding the beads to it, then weaving the cord back in. The reason it is important for a piece like this is that the fluorite is of excellent quality and quite transparent. If I put the green fluorite on purple cord, or purple fluorite on green cord it would kill it! With this technique, I always have the right color cord for the stone.
