Here is a simple necklace with luscious Kunzite, hand knotted on silk with glowing pearls. Kunzite is named after the legendary George Kunz, a self-taught mineralogist whose books we quote here often. It appears he very much wanted this variety of spodumene to be named after himself. It looks like there is an interesting article on the subject in the journal Rocks and Minerals entitled "The History of Kunzite and the California Connection." Unfortunately the article is behind a $39 paywall(!) so I didn't read it. But apparently he identified the new gem material from an example from our own Pala mines.
This Kunzite is very pale pink material with a few greenish stones as well. I used pink silk to give it a bit more color. You may ask why? Why expensive Kunzite instead of, say, rose quartz or even clear quartz strung on pink silk which would look about the same? The answer is very simple: nothing feels as marvelous as Kunzite. You may have a strand of huge gorgeous diamonds or emeralds which make a statement about power, prestige and net worth. You may have a strand of handmade beads where the maker's joyous personality comes through loud and clear. You may have your grandmother's beads or her jet necklace which make you feel her presence. Depending on your nationality you may have stones like Jade or Turquoise which connect you strongly with your ancestors. But Kunzite, gentle Kunzite, plugs you directly into Source.
