This is a very delicate piece, light weight and sweet to wear. The dragon is upside down in the photo-- silly me! If you click on the image to see a detailed shot, you'll see it's possible to wear him right side up! You'll find another old dragon bead like this one in Robert Liu's Collectable Beads. The needlewoven necklace takes forever to make, but is lovely and soft. The steel seed beads give the fringes a lovely weight and movement. Lapis is a very interesting stone, prized since ancient times. Did you know that it is under the influence of the planet Venus? Kunz relates this information from the Lapidario of Alfonso X. Kunz also reports that lapis-lazuli was believed to exert a tonic influence, conteracting the wiles of spirits of darkness and drawing the spirits of light and wisdom. In ancient Egypt, it was used for images of Truth (Ma). (The Curious Lore of Precious Stones) It's curious that the only "mythical" creature in the I Ching (as far as I'm aware anyway) is the dragon. It makes you wonder just how mythical they were. |
